"On Moving"
~by Heather
Moves usually come with some kind of life change, rarely have Greg and I moved just for the hell of it. There was the place for Greg and his band mates post college, my first apartment at the start of college, some moves in-between, our first place as a co-habitating couple, our seperate places when we split up, and a new shared place for getting back together and engaged; then our first home as a married couple, then our second home where baby number 2 was born...you get the picture. Now our kids are approaching school age and the house on Walton Creek is in a good school district. Our current house is not. So, here we go again.
Moves also come as a result of financial ups and downs. Ours have been mostly down. We have been small-scale landlords, flippers, house sellers, and land speculators--on the side, that is, while working full-time jobs. Supposed successes never quite worked out. With the real estate crash in 2008, some expected profits turned to dust. Sparing the details (because re-living it all over again just isn't healthy), we were still fortunate to have one of Greg's beautifully renovated homes to live in, however the value had plummeted. Add to that lost job opportunities, two little boys, and well--I am reminded of the time I was canoeing with friends and fell out of the canoe. The fast moving water penned me up against a fallen tree trunk on the Little Miami River so that I could not move. It was all I could do to keep my head above the surface and the edge of my canoe was heading straight for my face. Thankfully, a friend yanked me up out of the water just in time.
Sometimes life is like that. You can get really stuck. But, you just have to keep moving.
With the very gracious assistance of family, we have seized the opportunity to move again. To move UP from a financial bottom, move TO a good public school system, move ON from our past failures, and move IN to a new home and promising future. Regardless, when Greg sees an old neglected house in need of repair, he just can't let it go. When I see a back yard with a creek and a hill full of trees, I can't help but follow along.
Moving. It is what we do.
Our heartfelt thanks to Greg's parents, Len and Mares for being the hands yanking us out of the waters as well as Eric and Adele S. for their financial advice and assistance.

Also, much appreciation to Heather's mom, Gail, for keeping us sane and always having candy in her purse.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
To all those friends and family who have lent an ear (and sometimes beer), we thank you!
